Super Bowl Odds: Why the Patriots will Win

Gisele Bundchen

Does Eli Manning’s girlfriend look anything like Tom Brady’s girlfriend, Gisele Bundchen?

Forget for a second that the New England Patriots have not lost a game all season, consider instead this interesting fact: during the regular season the Patriots set an NFL record by outscoring their opponents by 19.7 points per game. And you can forget about Tom Brady’s so-called ankle injury that everyone’s been going on about. He’s been practicing just fine, thank you very much. But I would like to remind you of some very important facts about the Patriots star quarterback. He’s also got:

  • NFL record for most consecutive wins in post season: 10 (broke record of Green Bay’s Bart Starr).
  • Most consecutive post season wins (college and professional combined): 12
  • 3 Super Bowl victories
  • 2 Super Bowl MVP awards
  • Most completions in a Super Bowl (32 in Super Bowl XXXVIII)
  • Highest completion percentage in a single game, minimum 20 attempts (26 of 28, 92.9%, against Jacksonville in 2007 AFC Divisional round)
  • “Sportsman of the Year” by The Sporting News for the second time in his career.
  • Named the NFL MVP, as well as Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press, the first time he has received that honor, and the first time an NFL player has been honored since Joe Montana won in 1990.
  • Gisele Bundchen, the Brazilian super model.

The New England Patriots are favored to win the 2008 Super Bowl by at least 11.5 points. If this game is going to be the big blowout that everyone is saying, then betting on the Pats is a smart move.

Brett Favre Named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated

Brett Favre

It’s only been on the shelves for a day but the latest issue of Sports Illustrated is flying off the shelves in newsstands across the country. No, it’s not the new Swimsuit Issue that’s got everyone’s attention; it seems Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre is causing quite a stir as the popular magazine’s “Sportsman of the Year”.

The winningest quarterback of all time and the NFL’s leader in touchdown passes, Brett Favre has started in 249 consecutive games, the longest streak ever by an NFL quarterback. Favre also shattered Dan Marino’s career records for touchdown passes and pass attempts, and with 60,912 passing yards Favre should easily surpass Marino’s career record of 61,361 passing yards.

According to a press release, Favre is expected to receive the Sportsman of the Year award, a sterling silver trophy crafted by Tiffany & Co., at a party in his honor in New York City tonight.

“Brett is a great winner, but this award recognizes much more than winning,” said SI Group Editor Terry McDonell. “It recognizes performance off the field equally and celebrates the love of the game. Brett is having an astounding year on every level.”

That’s great news for Packers fans. But what are the odds on the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl this year? 12/1.
